Guru

One does not consciously choose a guru. Oh you can look, you can seek for years. You can travel to India or another promised land, as countless others have done before. You can wander the land chasing stories or your own intuition. You can investigate and discard many beings who you thought may be your guru.

But you’re not choosing.

When the guru appears there is no choice. Guru appears, and instantly and permanently becomes an indelible part of your world. Is there a choice of whether or not to see the sun when it is right overhead, shining hot and brilliant over every part of you?

No, there is no choice, no decision, only acceptance. Guru Is.

Sadhguru Jaggi Vasudev is my guru. I say this with humility and a sense of inadequacy. I may be a poor disciple, an inadequate devotee, as yet far too immersed in matters of the ego and the world of Maya. But Guru is always within, shining with the light of infinite bliss, despite the shortcomings of the student.

Sadhguru appeared in my life days after my initial breakthrough meditation experience. The next year of my life was a whirlwind, following him and his teachers around the world and taking every possible, class, initiation, and program.

The practices of Kriya yoga and Hatha yoga taught by Sadhguru are the core of my daily practices, something I spend hours on every day. every day. every day. It would be difficult to overstate the magnitude of the changes in my life and life experience that have occurred since beginning the practices. I am a different person, better in every important measure. Far, far, far from perfect, but better than I had ever conceived possible.
